Teachers’ TV

http://www.teachers.tv

This website is funded by the UK’s Department of Education and Skills (DfES). It is a TV channel and broadband website catering for everyone who works in UK education, from principals and teachers to support staff.

The hundreds of downloadable programmes take users inside classrooms and schools across the country to show how educators are bringing the curriculum to life and improving schools. Average viewing time per video is 15 minutes. There is much here of relevance and interest to New Zealand principals and teachers. A section aimed at school leaders has dozens of interviews with principals and middle managers on a range of school issues. For example, entering the term “Personalising” in the search facility brings together a large collection of short videos on how personalising learning is being implemented in a wide range of school types in the UK.

Depending on the kind of school ICT system you have, you can either stream the videos (for which you need broadband) or download the videos onto your laptop to watch at another time. To download a video there is a quick registration process, which is free. A video browser on the site makes it easy for you to quickly find the specific programmes you want as well as enabling you to browse areas of interest. Each video has a programme page which contains the video of the programme, and also supporting information and resources.
